Hi all, so since 2024, I have been pursuing a career as a teacher, an educator. Since 2024, pursuing a teaching career has attracted me. I love empowering students, motivating them, and guiding them to reach their goals. Being an alumnus of Surabaya’s SMAK St. Louis 1 Surabaya (Sinlui), I was lucky to get the opportunity to teach there. It was a privilege and a refreshing break from my transition living in Europe, coming back to my hometown.

In the academic year of 2024-2025, I began my journey teaching chemistry to grade 11 students. At that moment, 5 classes had chemistry due to subject specialization. I taught 4 classes: XI B1, B2, C1, and C2. There was around 35-40 students in a class, so it’s a rather big one. It’s actually very endearing that I could stand in front of the place where I had my teacher standing. All in all, I had no problem adapting to teaching national curriculum, and my peer colleagues (who were my teacher during my school year) were very helpful and understanding. I have nothing but great memories with the student as we bond through stories and activities.

Sinlui had a lot of events every year and we had outings at least twice a year. I had the opportunity to go with grade 11 students for the immersion (live-in experience) for 4 days and 3 nights (right picture). As a Catholic school, I acknowledge that we had a lot of these nurturing opportunities for the students. However, all good times must come to an end, and I would really love to continue polishing my English and testing my skills teaching international curriculum. Therefore, I end my one year tenure in June 2025. I had meaningful encounters with peer teachers and students whom I am keeping in touch with even until now.

For both younger teachers (left picture) who are in the same batch as me, and the more senior teachers (right picture), thank you so much for the love and cooperation in that short fleeting time. I pray that our endeavors will lead to the best results for our students and serve as an extension of God’s will for the students. For all teachers who might be reading this post, good luck for all of us. For all students who might be reading this post, your teachers are only humans, we have our human’s side as well, and believe that we’ll teach you with good intentions. Good luck for all of you!
