Easiest Way to make IELTS Writing Task 2 Introduction! (EN)

Okay, so this post will be in English okay, but I will try to make it as simple as I can. In most of the questions, especially in IELTS Writing Task 2, it is a must. Sometimes it can be super difficult for many people to decide what sentence to write at first, I mean, writing a first for everything is always difficult, so is there any easy and straightforward way to write it quickly without wasting much time? Well, yeah, there can be some tips for this, so pay attention to what I’m going to tell you in this post!

Let’s use this question as our main discussion today, it is an Opinion essay question, if you want to make sure what are these and what are the correct structures for each question, you can read it HERE.

Question:

Development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has spread to many aspects of our life. Many people suggest that AI will eventually replace humans completely in many jobs. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Now let’s try to make an introduction for this question quickly.

  1. Put a reasoning
One of the most important thing that you can do is to give out a reason, why does people think that way, or why did the problem / situation happened in the first place. Like how come people asked this question. This question about AI happens I assume can be caused by the advanced development of AI, or that the robots are becoming more efficient, or that the AI has become so clever that it can do more things than humans, or many other reasons.

After you decide what reason you are going to point out, put it as the first sentence, probably adding it with “Recently” or “Nowadays”. By doing this, you already making a relevant statement as an opening for your introduction.

    Sentence:
Nowadays, the development of AI has advanced so much that it can finish many tasks usually assigned to humans.
  2. Paraphrase the question
The second thing that you can do is to put a paraphrase to your question, because in the end we need to put our answer, therefore putting the question can be a great bridge from the first sentence to the third sentence. So the part of the question that can be taken is the “Many people suggest…”. This is useful as a connecting sentence from the first to second sentence. But of course you need to paraphrase the question by rearranging the sentence / words.

    Sentence:
Many people believe that eventually AI will overtake humans in many job fields in the world, maybe even replacing humans completely.
  3. Giving out your answer
Finally, you can put your answer and small description about it. For example if you disagree, then you need to mention it clearly that you do not agree with it. Usually, when you have an opinion about something, you would have reasons right? This is why it is important for us to be able to state the reasons, maybe like 2 reasons as I describe in the previous post. Let’s say you have two reasons of your disagreement.

    Perspective: Disagree
    Reasons:
    – humans can understand emotion –> sometimes it is required in work (consulting, learning)
    – humans are the standard, the AI need to be customised to follow our needs / wants / requirements

Then you can combine all of these into one sentence like this:

I disagree with this statement, because machines will not be able to understand important emotional aspect of work, and humans will always be relevant as the standard for AI services.

To sum up, these are the three components that you can combine to create a good introduction part. You can extend the answer part into two sentences for example, or you can prolong the paraphrase, or make the first sentence longer, just modify and do trial and error for it. The final answer / introduction for this question can look like this:

Nowadays, the development of AI has advanced so much that it can finish many tasks usually assigned to humans. Many people believe that eventually AI will overtake humans in many job fields in the world, maybe even replacing humans completely. I disagree with this statement, because machines will not be able to understand important emotional aspect of work, and humans will always be relevant as the standard for AI services.

That can be a solid start to make your writing quicker. Once you mastered this, you can easiliy modify the sentences, play around, and have more time to proofread your work. Let me know if you have any comments / questions! Good luck~
